Abstract

Liver cirrhosis represents the final and the most common pathway of all chronic hepatic injury and is considered a worldwide health problem. It is often associated with the loss of functional liver cells and activation of hepatic stellate cells. Major advances have been made in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of liver cirrhosis, including liver transplantation and artificial liver. The ideas of complementing or replacing damaged liver cells through cell-based therapies have been a particularly active area of investigation in recent years. This study aimed to evaluate the possibility of treating cirrhotic liver using mesenchymal stem cells in experimental dog model. Twelve dogs will be used in this study. Induction of cirrhosis will be carried out via the administration of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) through orogastric probe. Dogs will be divided into 3 groups, Group (I): control of 3 dogs; Group (II):  induced with MSCs treatment (n=6) and Group (III): induced without MSCs treatment.
