2002:

a) University Diploma in Clinical Oncology ;  IGR (Institut Gustave Roussey), PARIS, FRANCE:

A one year diploma at the famous IGR in Paris, it included the basic knowledge concerning cancer, its prevention, recent treatment modalities of most of adult and pediatric malignancies, mode of action of chemotherapeutic agents and management of common oncologic emergencies.

b) University Diploma in Anti-Infectious Chemotherapy, Besançon, France:

A one year diploma from the University of Besançon, France, a leading regional university in the east of France. It included the basic knowledge concerning the modalities of use of antibiotics, anti-infectious classes, and their indication, mode of action, side effects and treatment of common and serious infection, followed by a thesis.

My thesis was entitled: “Role of Voriconazole in treatment of Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillus Infection: about 8 cases treated in the BMT unit”

2003: 

i)     University Diploma in “Pain in Oncological patients”, IGR (Institute Gustave Roussy), Paris, FRANCE:

A one year diploma at the IGR focusing on the pain management in oncologic patients, modalities and different types of morphinic treatment, focus on palliative and hospice care, role of psychological support for patients in their end of life.

ii)   XVIII course of Anti-Cancer Chemotherapy & Medical Treatment of Cancer :

A two weeks course held each year in the IGR, Paris, FRANCE teaching the most recent advanced in cancer treatment, complications and prospective aspects.

iii)  DIS (Diplôme Inter-universitaire de Spécialisation) in Clinical Hematology, Besançon, France :

A four years fellowship program in Clinical Hematology in the University of Franche-Comte, Besançon, France. A leading Hematology department in the East of France headed by Professor J Y CAHN the actual president of the French Society of Hematology (SFH), the department had the following units:

i- an outpatient clinic with 15 beds dealing with day-care chemotherapy and management of common oncologic emergencies

ii- a Conventional inpatient ward with 24 beds treating all kinds of hematological diseases with a special 5 beds unit  practicing autologous BMT

iii- a BMT unit with 14 beds treating acute leukemia and practicing all kinds of BMT: autologous, allogeneic and attenuated allograft for both adult and pediatric patients.

iv- a pediatric hematology oncology unit with 14 beds and an outpatient clinic treating pediatric leukemia and solid tumors.

My 4 years fellowship was experienced as follows:

1-      18 months in the conventional hematology department.2-      12 months in the BMT unit.3-      6 months in the pediatric hematology oncology unit.4-      6 months in the hematology lab.5-      6 months in the outpatient clinic.

Large comprehensive pediatric oncology department wit 100 bed treating all kinds of pediatric malignancies. The NCI is considered the referral center in Egypt.

  Medical Activities and Points of Interest:

1)      Co participant of the UICC Project " My Child Matters": an educational grant given by the UICC  (Union International Contre Cancer) aiming at increasing education and  awareness of pediatric malignancies and to relieve stigmata associated with childhood malignancy. Our project is entitled "Education of Patients, Families and Society and Promoting Awareness of Pediatric Oncology Care and Support in Egypt". Though this project a 20 minutes education film was produced and actually being diffused in the pediatric oncology department. A 2nd year prolongation was recently obtained.

2)      Medical responsible of the Palliative Clinic: an outpatient clinic recently initiated in the Pediatric Oncology department, started in July 2007, more than 30 patients were seen in this clinic during a 6 months period .

3)      Iraqi training program coordinator: in association with the JICA (Japan), two groups of  Iraqi doctors was sent to the NCI for training program ; the first group  came in May 2006 for 2 months in the pediatric oncology department, the second group came in December 2006 and consisted of 34 doctors and nurses and was trained on management of  breast cancer. A third group of doctors is expected in October 2007.

4)      Active member of the postgraduate medical education –NCI Egypt: headed by the NCI vice dean for Higher Education and Research, this office is responsible on the implementation of the post graduate medical degrees given by the NCI (Master and Doctorate).

5)      Former coordinator of the Egyptian Pediatric Oncology Fellowship Training Program at the NCI.
