On this website I have authored over 800 pages of up-to-date information covering over 100 topics regarding prevention, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and blindness.  This website is unique as it presents these important topics to the general public in a simplified manner so that they can better understand the subject matter and ultimately seek medical treatment.

  It was the first ever use of social media to educate the public about eye diseases and to “market” good eye care to them

-          I was assigned as a director of the institute in November of 2010 to be responsible for medical and scientific improvement. The National Eye Centre is the largest eye hospital at the Ministry of Health in Egypt and it includes about 150 doctors and nurses in addition to 30 administrative staff.  My responsibilities included the supervision of all medical services as well ensuring proper financial and administrative productivity.  My objective was to provide medical services that were safe, efficient, effective and evidence based.  The budget was about 20 million pounds per year and I ensured that all financial targets were achieved in both years.  My goal was to maximize the use of hospital capacity (staff, equipment and infrastructure) while increasing our patient’s satisfaction and care.  Working with consultants, and younger grades of doctors as well as nurses to implement and ensure proper medical standards was a daily activity. 

As a teaching institute, I was also responsible for implementing a residency and    fellowship training program at the National Eye Centre. I conducted several meetings with different international institutions and signed several agreements with outside organizations to increase the patient flow and delivery of services.  Decisions such as hiring new staff or purchasing new equipment were also part of my responsibilities.

  :  Prevention of blindness in Leprosy patients project (surgical management of lagophthalmos and cataract in leprosy patients) .  Ministry of Health, Caritas – Egypt    and BCEIO . IN 1999,

  I started a national program for the prevention of blindness in leprosy

  patients in Egypt with the collaboration of

  Caritas organization

  . I developed an algorithm for the management of lagophthalmos in Leprosy patients and modified a surgical technique for these patients. The work was presented internationally so the

  American Leprosy mission

  asked me to reproduce it in

  South Africa, Myanmar and India

  . I also introduced the implantation of gold weights as a method of treatment for these patient.  The work was acknowledged by the

  London Institute of Tropical diseases 

  and was nominated for the

  AGFUND prize

  and got short
