Professor Ausama Abdelraouf Abdelmoneim Yousif Attia’s logo design commentary:
• The Arabic is the crown of languages, that is why it is above English.
• Both languages are present, we are multinational.
• The icosahedron represents the viral nucleocapsid.
• The triangular faces carry 3 subunits of species heads each. They are in an arrangement that resembles those of protomers on the triangular faces.
• The species appear as if trapped in the icosahedral cage, as viral diseases threaten all species. In fact, the whole world is trapped in one of the triangular faces. The latter implies our role in the study of molecular epidemiology and our role in global disease control efforts.
• The silhouettes represent are arranged around the human head figures. They are in triplicates.
• There are images of mosquitoes and ticks if you look carefully. They represent vector borne viruses.
• The arrangement represents epidemiological interactions and high-risk sources of disease spread. Even bats are represented.
• Implied here are the different routes of disease transmission that we study.
• At the margin of the icosahedron, you will see original EM images that I took myself representing virion morphogenesis. These are original images that have not yet been published. These represent the depth and originality of our research.
• Originality was targeted in my designs. You will not be able to generate an image like this using AI. However, components of the images were generated using AI, namely the envelop.
• The envelope gives the impression of a bilipid layer with integrated peplomers. However, the peplomers are either conventional viral peplomers or symbols representing immunity, vaccination, or diagnostics. Over peplomers are symbols representing antiviral drugs and antibodies binding to the peplomers to neutralize the virus.
• The supra-envelope structures and text represent our efforts to contain virus impact on the environment. We CONTAIN the virus and its effect on livestock, the environment, and public health. WE operate within the ONE HEALTH framework. We provide solutions to save all.
• We are the DEPARTMENT OF VIROLOGY OF THE FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE OF CAIRO UNIVERSITY.
Enjoy!
