Yasser Hussein Anis
Dr. Anis was born in Giza, Egypt. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He received the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2007. His Ph.D. research included the automation of the microassembly of MEMS devices using vision-based feedback control. In 2007, he joined the Center for Ecogenomics at the Biodesign Institute of Arizona State University, first as a postdoctoral fellow (2007-2009) and subsequently as a Assistant Research Scientist (2009-2010). His research included the automation of the micromanipulation of single cells in addition to the development of microfluidic devices providing exquisite flow control for the purpose of live cell manipulation. Since 2010, he has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cairo University. In 2014, he spent six months as a visiting Assistant Professor at the Electrical Engineering Dept. at Stanford University.
Dr. Anis is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), its Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
In 2013, Dr. Anis received the Egyptian State Award in Technological Sciences.
Research interests include system dynamics, control, and microfluidics.
