Amirah El-Haddad

Amirah El-Haddad

 is Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences (FEPS), Cairo University. During 2014 she was Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the American University in Cairo. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park (2005), during which time she also worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C. Her Ph.D. research was supported by a USAID scholarship and a U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. She is committed to bringing a high standard of technical rigor combined with economic intuition to both her teaching and her research. Her research applies institutional economics and public choice theory to the area of industrial organization, showing how both standard economic concepts and the developing country institutional setting affect market structure. He research interests also includes labor economics. She teaches econometrics, microeconomics, industrial organization, governance, institutional economics, and research methodology in applied economics. In 2007 she was elected ERF Research Associate. She coordinated the first curricula development project to upgrade undergraduate courses in Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University as well as a partnership between FEPS and Georgia State University (GSU), USA.  El-Haddad was visiting scholar at AYSPS, GSU, USA in 2011 and was invited to give a series of lectures at Stanford University, USA in February, 2015. She has several publications on the Textiles and Clothing Industry particularly on constraints on firm behavior. She has recently published a policy report on the welfare effects of institutional and regulatory reform in public utilities particularly the telecommunication sector. She is currently working on a book for the publisher Routledge on structural transformation covering Egypt’s industrial policy over the past sixty years. Her publications include a paper on dispute resolution mechanisms in the Egyptian garment industry published in Economics Letters and a recent publication on Egyptian Telecommunication reform in Journal of Development Effectiveness.

أميرة الحداد أستاذ الاقتصاد بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية، جامعة القاهرة، كما كانت استاذ زائر فى قسم السياسة العامة والإدارة في الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة خلال 2014. وهي حاصلة على درجة الدكتوراه في الاقتصاد من جامعة مريلاند بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية (2005)، وخلال هذه الفترة عملت أيضا للبنك الدولي في واشنطن Washington D.C.. حصلت على منحة من مؤسسة المعونة الامريكية (USAID)  للحصول على درجة الدكتوراه و كذلك على منحة من مؤسسة العلوم الوطنية الأمريكية (The National Science Foundation NSF) . هى ملتزمة بتقديم مستوى عال من الدقة الفنية جنباً إلى جنب مع الحدس الاقتصادي لخدماتها التعليمية وأبحاثها. وهى تقوم بتطبيق الاقتصاد المؤسسي ونظرية الاختيار العام فى مجال التنظيم الصناعي لدراسة كيفية تأثيرالمفاهيم الاقتصادية التقليدية والتنظيم المؤسسي للبلدان النامية على هياكل أسواقها. وتشمل اهتماماتها البحثية أيضا اقتصاديات العمل. كما تقوم بتدريس الاقتصاد القياسي، والاقتصاد الجزئي، والتنظيم الصناعي، والحوكمة، والاقتصاد المؤسسي، ومناهج البحث في الاقتصاد التطبيقي. في عام 2007 تم انتخابها كباحث مشارك فى منتدى البحوث الاقتصادية (ERF). وقامت بتنسيق اول مشروع لتطويرالمناهج لتطوير المقررات الجامعية في قسم الاقتصاد بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية، جامعة القاهرة، وتنظيم مشروع الشراكة بين الكلية وجامعة ولاية جورجيا (Georgia State University, GSU). وكانت أميرة الحداد باحث زائر في  AYSPS, GSU بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في عام 2011  و مؤخرأ تمت دعوتها لتقديم مجموعة من المحاضرات فى جامعة ستانفورد الأمريكية Stanford University  فى فبراير 2015. الحداد لديها العديد من المنشورات والابحاث فى قطاع صناعة المنسوجات والملابس خاصة على القيود على سلوك المؤسسة الصناعية  كذلك عن التمييز فى الأجر ضد المرأة. وقد نشرت مؤخرا تقريرا عن آثارالرفاهة للإصلاح المؤسسي والتنظيمي للمرافق العامة وخاصة قطاع الاتصالات. وهي تعمل حاليا على تأليف كتاب حول التحول الهيكلي يغطى السياسة الصناعية في مصر على مدى الستين عاما الماضية. تشمل المنشورات والمطبوعات ورقة (بحث) حول آليات تسوية المنازعات في صناعة الملابس المصرية نشرت في دورية
