Assistant lecturer of diagnostic and interventional radiology | Department of diagnostic and interventional radiology, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (Kasr Al-Aini)

Being a junior university staff member, it is my responsibility to push the wheel of research in the field of radiology and integrate it in a multidisciplinary system and team work. My research is held under the supervision of senior staff members and professors. It is also my duty to take part in all scientific activities held by my department. Another integral part of my job as an assistant lecturer is to transfer my experiences to the residents and medical school students through seminars, lectures and research groups.

My PhD thesis is collaboration between our department of radiology, the department of nuclear medicine and GIT surgery unit of the department of surgery in the faculty of medicine, Cairo university. It is titled " The role of 18 F-FDG PET/CT in pancreatic neoplasms"

The Cairo University hospitals affiliated to The Faculty of Medicine comprise more than 5200 beds representing the largest medical institution in the Middle East and probably one of the largest centers in the world. Kasr Al-Aini is considered a symbol of the medical profession in Egypt, a stronghold of science and culture, and a towering image of human mercy. Hence, the founding date of Kasr Al-Aini on March 11, 1827 was appointed as the day of the annual festival for the Egyptian medical profession.

As a resident of Radiology, I was responsible for deciding the most appropriate radiological investigations for the referred clinical situation, carrying out variable radiological procedures and techniques and finally be able to report them under senior staff supervision.

Being a University resident, I was also an active participant in the scientific activities, the staff rounds and the national or international conferences taking place in Egypt.

Also as I became a senior resident, I became responsible for the educational process for the junior residents and interns.

The first 9 months of the residency are structured to address the clinical experience in the fields most related to clinical radiology, so I spent a three months rotation in the department of internal medicine, a three month rotation in the department of pulmonology and a three months rotation in the department of nuclear medicine (an independent department from radiology).

The rotations inside the department included emergency, GIT, CNS, MSK, Genitourinary, Female, Cardiothoracic, Pediatric, sonography & duplex and angiography & interventional radiology units.
