AbstractWebsite

This study comprehensively characterized the metabolite profiles of six lettuce varieties and established the correlation between the elucidated profiles and their antivirulence effects. A total of 195 metabolites were annotated using LC-QTOF-MS/MS metabolomics assisted by molecular networking and integrated with chemometrics. Red varieties (red longifolia and lolla rosa) demonstrated higher chlorogenic and chicoric acids suggesting their antioxidant properties. In parallel, amino acids and disaccharides were enriched in romaine longifolia rationalizing its palatable taste and nutritional potential, while crispa, capitata, and lolla bionda presented a high β-carboline alkaloid content. The antibacterial and antihemolytic potential of all varieties against methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was assessed and validated by prominent downregulation of α-hemolysin transcriptional levels in both strains. Moreover, correlation analysis revealed sesquiterpenes, β-carboline alkaloids, amino acids, and oxy-fatty acids as the main bioactives. Results emphasize lettuce significance as a functional food and nutraceutical source, and highlight varieties naturally rich in antibacterial agents to adapt breeding programs. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

This review aims to comprehensively highlight the recent nanosystems enclosing Fenticonazole nitrate (FTN) and to compare between them regarding preparation techniques, studied factors and responses. Moreover, the optimum formulae were compared in terms of and studies in order to detect the best formula. FTN is a potent antifungal imidazole compound that had been used for treatment of many dangerous fungal infections affecting eye, skin or vagina. FTN had been incorporated in various innovative nanosystems in the recent years in order to achieve significant recovery such as olaminosomes, novasomes, cerosomes, terpesomes and trans-novasomes. These nanosystems were formulated by various techniques (ethanol injection or thin film hydration) utilizing different statistical designs (Box-Behnken, central composite, full factorial and D-optimal). Different factors were studied in each nanosystem regarding its composition as surfactant concentrations, surfactant type, amount of oleic acid, cholesterol, oleylamine, ceramide, sodium deoxycholate, terpene concentration and ethanol concentration. Numerous responses were studied such as percent entrapment efficiency (EE%), particle size (PS), poly-dispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP), and drug release. Selection of the optimum formula was based on numerical optimization accomplished by Design-Expert® software taking in consideration the largest EE %, ZP (as absolute value) and drug release and lowest PS and PDI. comparisons were done employing different techniques such as Transmission electron microscopy, pH determination, effect of gamma sterilization, elasticity evaluation and docking study. In addition to, permeation, irritancy test, histopathological, antifungal activity and Kinetic study.

Lactobacilli, play a beneficial role in the female reproductive tract (FRT), regulating pH via lactic acid metabolism to help maintain a healthy environment. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is characterized by a dysregulated flora in which anaerobes such as () create a less acidic environment. Current treatment focuses on antibiotic administration, including metronidazole, clindamycin, or tinidazole; however, lack of patient compliance as well as antibiotic resistance may contribute to 50% recurrence within a year. Recently, locally administered probiotics such as () have been evaluated as a prophylactic against recurrence. To mitigate the lack of patient compliance, sustained probiotic delivery has been proposed via 3D-bioprinted delivery vehicles. Successful delivery depends on a variety of vehicle fabrication parameters influencing timing and rate of probiotic recovery; detailed evaluation of these parameters would benefit from computational modeling complementary to experimental evaluation. This study implements a novel simulation platform to evaluate sustained delivery of probiotics from 3D-bioprinted scaffolds, taking into consideration bacterial lactic acid production and associated pH changes. The results show that the timing and rate of probiotic recovery can be realistically simulated based on fabrication parameters that affect scaffold degradation and probiotic survival. Longer term, the proposed approach could help personalize localized probiotic delivery to the FRT to advance women's health.
